In an industry full of copycats and imitators, blind rapper NovaCain dares to be different. With his neon green dreads and his fashionable attire, NovaCain has boldly labeled himself as the voice of the blind. “I’m tired of society viewing the blind community as less capable of doing the things that a sighted person can do,” says NovaCain. “I want to inspire the blind youth to chase whatever goals they may have. I want them to see me and believe that they can make their dreams come true.”
With the release of his latest single Ray Charles is Back, NovaCain has found instant success. In only 3 weeks he has reached number 73 on the DRT Global Top 200 chart and number 5 on the DRT Independent Chart. “I could never imagine my name being on the same chart as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Kendrick Lamar,” said NovaCain with a smile. “I was shocked to see that my song charted higher than Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow.”
Along with the success of the single on digital radio, Ray Charles is Back has amassed over 75k streams on Spotify since its release on January 12th. “Not to sound cocky, but my ability to have another single garner as much success as my last, shows the world that I am the best blind rapper,” explains NovaCain. “Who else has done it consistently, while being concerned with empowering the blind community?”
Recently, a visual for Ray Charles is Back was released on YouTube. In just 3 days, the official music video has garnered 35k views and several reaction videos from famous YouTubers such as Semaj, Gattor Martin, Perkyy and Honeyybee. Fusing music and comedy, NovaCain leaves viewers laughing and questioning his blindness. “Imagine the feeling a blind child may get when they see the things that I did in the video,” said NovaCain. “The excitement and inspiration that they might feel is the reason why I’m doing what I do.”
Support NovaCain as he pledges 20% of the proceeds from the sale of Ray Charles is Back on digital music platform Music For Change.
