Sammy Rigaud is an East Atlanta-based rapper who is a mainstay in hip-hop’s rap scene. Having begun his musical journey during his teen years, Rigaud touches on his journey and reflects deeply on the ups and downs and, more importantly, the special family and community that stuck and supported him along the way. The iconic rapper and teacher goes far and beyond to make learning fun in the classroom. The second-grade teacher went viral as one of the world’s chilled teachers after his video of himself engaging students through a weekly exercise called ‘Freestyle Fridays’ surfaced on the internet. The platform lets students try their rap skills but only as a reward for those who receive an 80% or higher on assessments. It also allows Rigaud to use his passion for hip-hop music as a tool to enhance the learning experience. Music is a passion of his because it takes him away from everything around him, and it is a way to express himself. There is no doubt Sammy Rigaud is the next lineage of rappers to watch out for in Atlanta.
