Artist Jackboy Marley, Ft. Worth, Texas, is trying to change the way we listen to music with his genre bending sound and lyrics. Starting his music career at 20, Jackboy has since been in a group, gone solo, been an independent artist, and is now signed to and independent record label, Potent Music Group. With a consistent catalog, Marley has stayed tire to his creative nature.
Determined to not be a “fifteen minutes of fame artist” Jackboy pulls out all the stops. He is the definition of an artist, writing and coproducing his own music. When asked to explain his style, Jackboy responded with “Street, Social, Political and Spiritually conscious with a near alternative presentation.” With hard 808’s and a simple melody over a LoFi beat he plans to challenge the status quo and return some depth to the term “reality rap”.
According to Jackboy Marley, “reality rap” has lost its luster and meaning and part of the reason is that Hip Hop artist lack dexterity. Jackboy believes his dexterity in music theory gives him an edge and sets him apart. Pulling from is inspirations such as Queen to Marilyn
Manson to Lil Wayne, Tupac, and UGK, Marley creates what he calls a “cohesive blend of various gene elements is Hip Hop with style substance and content.”
Motivated by not only his daughter, who he wants to show that the sky is the limit to, but also his want to be a legend.
“I want to be LEGENDARY…trendsetting and a pioneer for a new way people listen to music that feeds the soul and liberates the mind!”
With two mixtapes (Marley Mixtape 2018 and Marley Pt. 2 Mixtape 2019) an EP (The Jackal EP 2020), an Album (The ER Album 2021), three songs and an EP in the works, Marley is definitely proving his legendary-ness. All of the music in the works showcases Jackboy Marley’s harmonic and melodic vocals, his streetwise sense of survival, and unfettered room to present his perspective on life.
