Nature is the greatest orchestra out there. From the sounds of water dripping in a bucket, to the deep whooshing of strong winds to the crackling sounds of fire; nature truly is truly the original multi-instrumentalist. Taking inspiration from its unadulterated purity are young musicians like Eric Walsh. Eric, who has been playing multiple musical instruments from an early age, talks about how he mastered his craft.
Eric was born with a musical ear. Right from the beginning, he was able to hold a tune and find sounds where others found silence or noise. He was quickly able to discover his penchant for music and the draw he felt towards it. Once this realization hit home, there was no turning back. Today Eric is a well-established multi-instrumentalist whose compositions are based on his personal experiences and interpretations of natural sounds. Talking about his experience, he says, “I wanted to learn too much too quickly. I remember times when if I wasn’t practicing my guitar or drums, I felt like I was wasting time. I always felt the pull towards creating music, opening my ears to new experiences. I guess, it was always going to be a musical career for me.”
Mastering something is not easy. It’s about perseverance, practice, patience and love. Eric found he had dollops of all these pre-requisites. He says, “It’s easy to start playing an instrument and it’s easy to stop. It’s the desire to carry on that’s the difficult part. And you can never fully master anything; you can only give it your best. And that’s my goal too. It doesn’t matter if I have a gig or not, you’ll find me practicing hard every day.”
To become a master of something is a dream. Eric is on his way to make it come true with dedication and hard work.
