AI technology is undoubtedly here to stay. It’s being applied in new and inventive ways beyond understanding music listeners and their preferences and has become the latest method for creating music. The music industry will continue to experience changes as the use of AI proliferates, but AI will not replace musicians in transmitting sensory experiences through music. Still, it could become progressively essential for artists and all those participating in the music industry to understand and leverage it.
AI-powered tools can now understand many questions that earlier puzzled players across the music industry. Analytics and predictive models allow labels to make smarter decisions concerning their investments, now informed by a more comprehensive understanding of the competitive environment and audience preferences.
Wong Kwan Chi is a technology adept entrepreneur with an unfathomable love for music. He is the founder and CEO of Axiox Media Technology Limited (AiO), an IT company responsible for the group’s overall tactical planning and business and product development. Wong researches and develops search engine optimization, online advertising, and digital solutions. Wong’s expertise has seen him achieve so much. For example, he won the 2021 Innovation and Technology Excellence Award, and his digital human and game development YouTube channels were also recently verified.
As an up-and-coming artist, Wong has released various singles and EPs like “Never Give Up,” “Hiraeth,” “Return With Glory,” “Shield Up,” “March Forward,” “Seeking the Way”, and “We Are the One,” among others. His most recent release is an album, No Fears, which is skyrocketing, and his fans cannot get enough of his captivating sounds. However, he says he has faced challenges due to a lack of connections and recognition, but he believes participating in many offline social activities and events enables you to meet more people and grow your network.
AI has been used as a creative tool. Some musicians train machine-learning models with data based on what they want their sound to be. Others feed a neural network (an algorithm system modeled after the human brain’s neurological activity) with music preferences based on bands or digital sounds that consequently create compositions of melodies and rhythm patterns. AI is also being used to create symphonies.
Wong explains how AI technology has created opportunities for musicians. The demands of the content-driven music industry, in which producers are expected to deliver volumes of music for video content more frequently, can be difficult to meet. Independent artists need unique music for their content, preferably without paying the high costs of licensing or using recording studios and thus turn to AI. “Apps such as Mubert, Everett Music, and Songen allow independent creators to generate royalty-free music in a few steps. These services use AI-assisted engines that sketch song ideas users can customize and finish according to their needs and preferences. They also help creators avoid misusing copyrighted material, which, by the way, AI has been instrumental in detecting,” Wong adds.
When asked about his future plans, Wong shared, “I dream of bringing the art of music to the extreme. In fact, through IT technology, the face of music will completely take on a new phase. My goal is to make music great as I incorporate technology. This is the ultimate music feast!”
