The National Diversity & Inclusion Cannabis Alliance (NDICA) recently hosted a record expungement and resource fair in partnership with Discover Careers and the Greater Chicago Legal Clinic. The event was held on January 25th, 2023, at the Shine Bright Community Center in Chicago and was the largest expungement event in Illinois. It attracted 212 pre-registrants and 380 individuals with criminal records, who took the first steps towards getting their records expunged or sealed.
At the event, two volunteer attorneys helped individuals file their legal documents and better understand the expungement process. “This event was a huge success,” said Selena Smith, Program Director for NDICA Chicago. “It provided a valuable opportunity for individuals with criminal records to take the first steps towards clearing their records and moving forward with their lives.”
In addition to record expungement, the event also provided resources for housing, employment, access to food, and cannabis legalization. “We’re committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the cannabis industry and creating opportunities for individuals with criminal records,” said Hazey Taughtme, Chief Marketing Officer for NDICA. “This event was a step towards achieving this goal, and we’re proud to have played a role in helping so many individuals take control of their future.”
NDICA’s next record expungement and resource fair will be held on February 22nd, 2023, at Metro Family Services 3-6 PM CST. “We’re looking forward to continuing our work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society,” said Raquel Bolton, Director of Workforce Development. “If you or someone you know has a criminal record, we encourage you to attend one of our upcoming events and take the first steps towards clearing your record and moving forward with your life.”
NDICA is a national non-profit organization that promotes diversity and inclusion in the cannabis industry. They strive to create opportunities for communities that have been disproportionately affected by the war on drugs and to help individuals with criminal records clear their records and move forward with their lives. NDICA is the first non-profit in the cannabis industry to receive government funding in multiple states to support its programs and initiatives.
The organization’s record expungement and resource fair is just one example of its commitment to positively impacting the lives of individuals and communities. Through its programs and initiatives, NDICA is working to create a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone has the same opportunities and resources.
