Amplifying his pain with strikingly emotive melodies, Dro Kenji knows that heartbreak can be just as addictive as the substances used to cope with it. Opening up old wounds with reckless abandon, Kenji shares his new full-length project, WISH YOU WERE HERE. A journey into Kenji’s lovelorn grief featuring crisp, immersive production from Internet Money heavy-hitters including Taz Taylor, Nick Mira, Census, Cxdy, and more, WISH YOU WERE HERE is available everywhere via Internet Money Records/10k Projects.
Home to recent video singles like “OVER & OVER” and “ARSONIST,” WISH YOU WERE HERE plays out like a series of memories, regrets, and half-hearted resolutions running through a troubled mind on a sleepless night. Kicking off the spiral with the dizzying atmosphere of the intro track, “THROW UP,” the 21-year-old rapper’s eighth full-length project quickly pivots into “PAMPER PAMPER,” produced by Pro Era sound architect Powers Pleasant and featuring Mike Dimes, the project’s sole guest, which shows how he can still find ways to run from his troubles. As the project progresses, Kenji begins to put the past behind him over smooth wailing synths on project highlight, “ANNIHILATION,” and though he soon discovers it’s not that simple, he finds closure in realizing his pain is as valid as it is inescapable, and he’s only as real as his ability to feel it.
WISH YOU WERE HERE arrives as Kenji’s first project of the year following a very busy 2022, which saw the South Carolina native refine and sharpen his craft with three full length releases, including last January’s WITH OR WITHOUT YOU and last summer’s LOST IN HERE EP, and ANYWHERE BUT HERE, a 13-track project featuring the buzzing Mike Dimes-featured track “STEP BACK,” with guest appearances from fellow rising stars like Midwxst, Ka$hdami, and NoCap.
Dro Kenji is co-headlining the “DO NO DISTURB Tour” with Mike Dimes this fall, with support from Metro Marrs and Sid Shyne. Visit Dro Kenji’s official website for tour dates and to buy tickets.
Sit back and stay tuned as Dro Kenji continues his ascent to the highest echelons of the rap game.
