Jay Fizzle worked hard to rise from poverty on the streets of Memphis to become one of the city’s most-beloved rappers. Today, the Paper Route Empire rapper shares “Who Is Grizzape,” a new vlog that peeks behind the scenes of his career.
The 30-minute doc dives deep into Fizzle’s history, introducing various family members and taking a tour of a plot of land Fizzle’s family has owned in Tennessee for five generations, where he used to fish with his grandfather and still spends much of his time at today. At the same time, it’s a peek into his day-to-day life as a hardworking rapper and loving father, following him as he visits his favorite Memphis haunts, including Mighty Wings and the Dolph Land mural honoring his mentor Young Dolph. The documentary features testimonials from Fizzle’s close friends and collaborators attesting to his generosity and his work ethic, like his PRE cohort Big Moochie Grape–who reminds the world that Fizzle was the one who introduced him to Young Dolph–and Memphis rapper CEO Jizzle. The “Who Is Grizzape” doc is available to watch on Fizzle’s YouTube channel.
The new mini-doc comes hot on the heels of Fizzle’s new album, Who Is Grizzape. The project is a feast of no-holds-barred Memphis music, featuring anthems like Front And Back Pocket,” which boasts a slowed sample of Young Dolph’s 2015 song “Boyz In The Hood,” and guest spots from PRE cohorts Big Moochie Grape and Kenny Muney, the Ayoza-produced “Mr. Freaky Man,” and the cinematic, JpOnThaTrack-produced “Bottom Boy Survivor.” Fizzle welcomes collaborators like his PRE compadre Key Glock, who joins him on “No Mo,” which also includes a posthumous verse from Big Scarr, and Memphis diva Kashh Mir hops on “Opp B*tch.” Who Is Grizzape is available to stream everywhere via Paper Route Empire.
Fizzle’s Who Is Grizzape continues a strong run for the Memphis rap mainstay. Last year, he shared his album F*CK BEING FAMOUS, which featured guest spots from 03 Greedo and fellow PRE soldiers Key Glock and SNUPE BANDZ. He paid tribute to his favorite Ninja Turtle, who he honors with a chain around his neck, with 2022’s DonaFizzo, which featured street hits like “Standing On Top Of Sh*t” ft. Key Glock and the heartfelt tribute “Long Live Dolph” ft. Ricco Barrino.
With Who Is Grizzape and its accompanying documentary out now, Jay Fizzle is ready to let the world know who runs things in Bluff City. Sit back and watch him rise to the top of Memphis’s busy scene.
