Everybody has this memory. You’re somewhere ordinary, a coffee shop or a train platform or a checkout line, and you catch someone’s eye. They catch yours back. Something registers on both sides. And then nothing happens, because neither of you is brave enough to open your mouth, and thirty seconds later they’re gone and you spend a week thinking about it.
Alli Cazaam Nelson wrote a song about that. She’s sixteen, she watched it happen in public, and she turned it into “Don’t U Wanna?”
Most writers her age go straight for the big feelings. Heartbreak, betrayal, the whole dramatic apparatus. Alli went smaller and picked a moment that lasts maybe four seconds, and the reason it works is that everybody has lived it and almost nobody writes about it. Missed connections are the most common romantic event on earth. They’re also the least documented, because there’s no story there. Just two people failing to speak.
Signed at twelve
The timeline is worth laying out, because it explains a lot.
Development deal at twelve. First album, “Incantation,” at thirteen. A U.S. tour finished in 2025. Now a third record at sixteen, and not a normal third record either. AC3: Origins is a trilogy, structured on purpose as three volumes released separately that add up to one longer work. Instrumentals in there. Preludes. Transitions that don’t behave like normal track breaks.
That’s a four-year professional career, which means she’s been working longer than most artists who are ten years older than her. It shows up in the writing. There’s no scramble for attention in “Don’t U Wanna?” She trusts a small idea to hold a whole song, and that kind of patience usually takes people a decade to find.
“Don’t U Wanna?” leads Part 2, out October 31. Which is her birthday, so she’s marking turning seventeen by putting out the middle chapter of a trilogy. Once all three volumes land, Zebula Records is collecting the set on triple vinyl. Vinyl box sets are a format for people who think in albums. Not many sixteen-year-olds are thinking in albums right now.
Not just the songs
Music is one lane. She also designs guitars, and the Cupid line came out of a real problem she had as a young player, that standard acoustic bodies are too bulky for smaller arms to reach around comfortably. So she reshaped one. That’s a genuinely useful piece of engineering, aimed at beginners who quit before they get good.
There’s a foundation too, running supply drives and school lunch support, started because she noticed classmates showing up without pencils.
Point is, all of it comes from noticing. The guitar came from watching kids struggle with an instrument built for adults. The foundation came from watching kids go without. And “Don’t U Wanna?” came from watching two strangers not talk to each other in public.
