Yes, you can listen to SORRY4THEWAIT, but Mari Loadin wants listeners to FEEL SORRY4THEWAIT.

The 10 track project is rooted in a period of real life experiences. Though, what makes the project stand out is how naturally Mari allows those experiences to shape the music. The New York native moves through melody, introspection, confidence, aggression, and high energy production while maintaining a distinct identity throughout.

“I was going through a lot when I made SORRY4THEWAIT, and honestly I just wanted people to be able to feel something from it,” Loadin says. “Every song came from a real place or a real moment in my life.”

That honesty is evident without making the project feel overly heavy. Records like “PRBLMS” showcase Mari’s melodic abilities, with his vocals hovering between singing and rapping as he hums his way into the record, immediately pulling the listener closer. Elsewhere, “DREAMIN” demonstrates how intentional he can be with production. Even with its trap inspired foundation, the subdued drums contribute to an atmosphere that genuinely feels like a dream.

Then there are moments like “WAIT” and “PINK SHOCK,” where Loadin turns up the intensity. Heavy bass, braggadocious delivery, and a sound influenced by the likes of Playboi Carti and Pi’erre Bourne give the latter the kind of vigor designed to shake a room and spark a mosh pit. As Mari puts it, the record is “potent.”

That versatility is astounding as SORRY4THEWAIT never feels like Mari is trying to prove he can create varying types of moods. The transitions feel more like a reflection of where his mind is at any given moment.

The project also reveals a growing understanding of self. On “MORE THAN EVER,” Mari raps, “I ain’t goin for nun, I ain’t goin for that,” capturing the increasingly firm boundaries and confidence that run throughout the project.

Perhaps the biggest discovery came from the creative process itself. Mari says he learned that his best music happens when he isn’t forcing it.

“I used to think too much about how I wanted something to sound,” he explains. “But with this project I started trusting whatever came naturally.”

That trust allows Mari to turn whatever he’s experiencing into something listeners can interpret through their own lives. By the time SORRY4THEWAIT reaches “KID,” its New York Drill-inspired closer, he isn’t looking for a soft landing. He leaves the listener with momentum and wanting more.

For Mari Loadin’s SORRY4THEWAIT is evidence of what happens when an artist stops overthinking and starts trusting himself.
