A Different Kind of Creative Career
For Chazzy Boo, being an artist has never meant having only one title.
His work includes music production, visual direction, DJing, fashion, and organizing creative events through VIBE SERIES. Each discipline gives him another way to interact with artists and audiences, while his experience across different industries has given him a broader understanding of what it takes to develop a creative career.
He moved from Edmonton, Alberta, to Vancouver, British Columbia, in February 2021 with the intention of expanding his presence in music. Vancouver quickly introduced him to opportunities beyond music, and those opportunities eventually became an important part of his professional evolution.
The realities of living in one of Canada’s most expensive cities also forced him to become resourceful.
Hobbies became side hustles. Side hustles became professional skills. Eventually, those skills became a full-time career.
Finding His Place in Vancouver
Chazzy Boo’s Vancouver story began in East Vancouver, just outside downtown.
The city’s downtown energy immediately caught his attention. As his relationships within the creative community grew, he eventually had the opportunity to relocate downtown and take on freelance work connected to Compound Recording Studio.
The studio’s history of working with high-profile artists gave Chazzy Boo another perspective on the professional music environment. His experience eventually expanded into operations work with Canada Goose, while his visual portfolio continued developing.
Those different experiences may appear unrelated on paper, but together they helped shape the multidisciplinary approach that defines him today.
The SoundCloud Generation Still Matters
Ask Chazzy Boo about the music that shaped his creative perspective and the SoundCloud era quickly enters the conversation.
For him, that period represented an extraordinary moment in music when artists could experiment outside traditional industry structures and build audiences around music that felt raw, personal, and unconventional.
The excitement came from watching artists break through in real time.
There was an emotional honesty to the music that resonated with Chazzy Boo. Artists could communicate joy, pain, struggle, love, and ambition without needing to fit neatly into established industry formulas.
Although today’s artists continue to find success through new platforms and technologies, Chazzy Boo believes the culture could benefit from another period of experimentation with the same sense of discovery.
Vancouver Has the Talent
The opportunity, in his view, is already there.
Vancouver has talented musicians, designers, filmmakers, photographers, DJs, producers, and other creatives who are actively building careers. The challenge is creating enough infrastructure and platforms for that talent to develop and connect.
Chazzy Boo believes Vancouver can eventually become one of North America’s major creative hubs.
Conversations with professionals in Los Angeles, Miami, and Toronto have further strengthened that belief. Interest in Vancouver’s creative scene is growing, and Chazzy Boo sees himself as someone positioned within that movement at an important moment.
The city does not necessarily need more talent.
It needs more infrastructure around the talent.
The Struggle for Recognition
Western Canadian artists have already produced internationally recognized names, including Michael Bublé, bbno$, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Merkules, and Snak The Ripper.
Still, Chazzy Boo believes Vancouver has yet to experience the type of cultural explosion that turns an artist into a household name around the world.
That breakthrough, he believes, could be closer than many realize.
The city’s economic realities remain a significant obstacle. Vancouver’s high cost of living contributes to a constant movement of people in and out of the city, making it difficult for creative communities to maintain continuity.
For newcomers, building friendships and professional relationships can take time.
The right network can therefore make an enormous difference.
Foreign Familia and the Infrastructure Play
Chazzy Boo has found that environment through Foreign Familia Records.
The label and professional studio, which has been around since 2017, recently moved into a new Gastown location featuring approximately 5,500 square feet of multi-studio space.
The facility includes an infinity wall and an immersive visual arts area designed to give artists greater creative flexibility.
For Chazzy Boo, spaces like this are part of the answer to Vancouver’s infrastructure challenge.
Artists need somewhere to record.
They need somewhere to shoot.
They need people to collaborate with.
They need opportunities to perform.
And they need communities that allow those relationships to grow.
VIBE SERIES Creates Another Point of Connection
That philosophy is also at the heart of VIBE SERIES.
Created by Chazzy Boo, the platform is designed around the idea that music culture does not exist in isolation. DJs, performers, producers, photographers, filmmakers, dancers, fashion creatives, and visual artists all contribute to the same ecosystem.
VIBE SERIES gives those communities an opportunity to meet in the same space.
The concept has become an extension of Chazzy Boo’s larger philosophy: creative scenes become stronger when people stop working exclusively in their individual lanes and start building together.
The need for that type of community has become even more apparent following the pandemic, when local venues faced significant challenges and the live entertainment landscape changed.
At the same time, new technology has lowered the barrier to entry for aspiring artists and producers.
More people are getting involved.
The next challenge is keeping them connected.
Authenticity Is the Common Thread
For Chazzy Boo, the solution is not complicated.
Authenticity matters.
A memorable brand can attract an audience, but genuine relationships keep people involved. The strongest creative communities are built when people believe in what they are contributing rather than simply chasing visibility.
That philosophy influences how he approaches his own work and how he thinks about developing VIBE SERIES.
He wants the platform to become more than another event.
He wants it to become part of the infrastructure supporting Vancouver’s creative community.
Building Something Bigger Than One Career
There is plenty ahead for Chazzy Boo.
New music is coming. More performances are expected. Additional collaborations with artists and creatives are developing. VIBE SERIES is continuing to evolve, while his work with Foreign Familia is opening new possibilities across music, visuals, and production.
But the bigger objective goes beyond releasing music or organizing events.
Chazzy Boo wants to help develop people.
That could mean an artist behind a microphone, a DJ behind the decks, a filmmaker behind a camera, or a creative working inside a recording studio.
His definition of success is increasingly collective.
“At the end of the day, I genuinely believe that if one of us pops, we all pop together.”
That belief captures the direction of his career.
Chazzy Boo is not simply trying to establish himself within Vancouver’s music and entertainment scene. He is working toward a creative ecosystem where artists can collaborate, develop, and create opportunities for one another.
For a city filled with talent and a Western Canadian scene waiting for its next major breakthrough, that kind of thinking could prove just as important as the next hit record.
