Atlanta Dream guard Alex Bentley is one of five players who have been named to the 2013 WNBA All-Rookie Team, the league office has announced. Hayes is the third Dream player to earn All-Rookie Team honors in the last five seasons, joining Angel McCoughtry (2009) and Tiffany Hayes (2012).Joining Bentley on the All-Rookie team are Elena Delle Donne of Chicago, Brittney Griner of Phoenix, Kelsey Bone of New York and Tulsa’s Skylar Diggins.
The voting panel consisted of the WNBA’s 12 head coaches, each of whom voted for five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Delle Donne and Griner each garnered the maximum of 11 votes. Bentley and Bone notched 10 votes apiece and Diggins tallied eight.
A second-round draft selection out of Penn State, Bentley ranked third among all rookies this season in assists (2.8) and steals (1.0) and was fourth in scoring (8.3). She set a new WNBA record by making 10 consecutive 3-pointers from June 14-28, and tied the Dream single-game assist record with 11 in a victory over Los Angeles on Sept. 2.
Bentley had 12 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 19 points Aug. 31 at Chicago. In 10 starts, she averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 assists.
