Last night during MTV’s Video Music Awards, the network aired a special PSA in regards to Ferguson, Missouri. The chilling video featured a quote from James Baldwin, “Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” The quote appears while chants of “Hands up, don’t shoot,” are played in the background. The chant has become the slogan that has been used by protestors in Ferguson and other locations following the shooting of unarmed Michael Brown. The PSA is part of a large campaign titled Look Different that has been developed by the network, the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, the Souther Poverty Law Center, and the Anti-Defamation League.
