Recently during Peter Thomas’ “Salute To Excellence” award ceremony, HHS1987 caught up with Hip-Hop mogul Jermaine Dupri to discuss an array of topics.
After being honored at the “Salute To Excellence” awards, Jermaine Dupri discussed changing the game and introducing the world to Atlanta and Atlanta’s entertainment scene. Paying homage to Peter Thomas and the “How Can I Be Down” conferences that use to take place in Miami in the early 90s, Jermaine Dupri explained how events like that helped him learn the game and how to be successful.
With his label recently celebrating a milestone, Jermaine Dupri also discussed So So Def celebrating their 20 year anniversary and what that accomplishment meant to him. Having worked with Kris Kross, Mariah Carey, Usher, Da Brat, and Bow Wow just to name a few, JD discussed So So Def reaching heights that Bad Boy, Roc-a-fella, Death Row and other labels weren’t able to do.
JD is known for discovering talent and breaking new artist so it was only right that we talk with him about his new artist Royce Rizzy. Jermaine Dupri explained that Royce Rozzy reminded him of Bonecrusher or the Youngbloodz by having the ability to bring something fresh to the game. JD also gave us a little insight on Jagged Edge’s upcoming album “J.E. Heartbreak 2” and how they plan to bring back the true sound of R&B.
Before concluding the interview, JD spoke to us about the future of So So Def. Having recently dropped a new single entitled “Pull Up” featuring Migos and Ty Dolla Sign, JD spoke on Atlanta new music scene as well as Usher, Mishon and Mariah Carey all working on new material.
The interview was conducted by HHS1987’s Eldorado. The interview was shot by HHS1987’s Brian Da Director.
