“Stroker’s Row,” a light-painting themed music video, featuring S.W.I.M./BluRoc artist Matt Monday, is directed and edited by Taylor Engel. Engel, a Los Angeles based director, spent a month of consecutive all-nighters perfecting the photographic technique that translated into the light-painting video.
With the lyrics of “Stroker’s Row” detailing a relationship gone wrong, Engel came up with the idea of having Monday draw the profile of a woman with a light in the dark, using special effects to take what is typically a photographer’s trick, using a long shutter exposure and translating it to video.
The video was filmed over two days in L.A., where Engel’s team set up in Engel’s apartment between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., with its view across the valley and the Hollywood Hills. “Stroker’s Row,” produced by Max Berry, is the first release from Matt Monday’s upcoming EP entitled Filthy on July 22nd, 2014 hosted by DJBooth.
