The day was July 22, 2010 when one of the most polarized pop-stars in history decided…I GOTTA GET ON TWITTER! What followed was a collage of inspiring, funny, witty and head scratching messages and images that let us into his world. Mr. West (@kanyewest) was apart of the Twitterverse!
What started off as a self-serving “need to get my message out” kinda deal turned into a phenomenon of several high profile celebrities taking over their own twitter accounts and letting us into their daily routines and thought processes. In the following weeks celebs like Ciara, Rihanna, and even 50 Cent took to their blackberry’s and iphones and started to let us in their worlds. To me it seemed clear that KanYe had made it officially “cool” to Twitter, as this was a medium he previously denounced due to constant misquoting from fake pages.
When Rihanna tweeted that “she had taken over her account” or some bullshit…Chris Brown playfully (not really) wrote that “twitter just got corny lol”! Ethered her ass, but he quickly deleted it. I guess he knows the chick doesn’t have anything to talk about and he was tryna warn us in advance! Personally, I say the girl is beautiful but evidence shows she has the personality of 4 flat tires. I wouldn’t follow Rihanna unless it came with a 1/10 chance to slay yams! Moving on…
50 Cent has been by far the most entertaining new celebrity tweeter and has gained back a lot of fan fare by being a got damn fool (@50Cent)! His messages have ranged from “I got the 9 on me, I kill I kill” to pictures of Diddy vs. Jeremih with the caption “One wrote his hits, one paid for his…does it matter?” He even slayed KanYe by saying “just read KanYe’s timeline…that was some spaced out shit on there. I’m never goin back.” Just as recently as yesterday he put up the funniest/pausest shit ever which he claimed was his final shot at Diddy! Three fags in a pyramid rockin neon-colored spandex with “This that Dirty Money” written on it…I DIED!
Even the God MC (@S_C_) has been a little more active on his twitter when he recently wrote his line from Monster “my achilles heel is love…genius!” But don’t get ya hopes up…son writes about 3 tweets a year! But its a start! As he’s always done in his career, KanYe has continued to inspire and be a trendsetter even as he transitions out of a dark period in his life! His tweets have been honest, inspiring, informative and downright hilarious at times. He quickly got to 1 million followers while following only 2 people (Justin Bieber & Taylor Swift)! Takin over his twitter and the clear effect it’s had on other celebs has shown that he while he was down, he still has the “Power” to influence…
