French Montana recently broke down the way he picks his singles with XXL. In the brief interview, French Montana also gave a break down of how the beat his breakthrough single “Shot Caller” came about:

“The story of that beat, I had did that for Funkmaster Flex. I always liked that record [‘Funky Child’ by Lords of the Underground.]. The part that was catchy to me was the horns on the ‘Funky Child’ record. I went to my producer, Harry Fraud. He sat on it, he didn’t want to do it. But I came in the studio one day and made him do it. Then Charlie Rock was just there while we was making the beat, then he kept coming out with that melody on the chorus of ‘Shot Caller.’ Then I said, ‘you need to go in there and do that.’ The song started playing in the strip clubs and took off from there.”

“Shot Caller” is the first single picked up by Bad Boy since French Montana signed with the label.
