“If I don’t do nothing I’m ball ” was his intro to many Hip-hop lovers who had no clue who the then Playaz Circle member Tity Boi was but now with a renewed swag and a array of club banging hits 2 Chainz had shown and proved he is here to stay. “TRU”
The former Disturbing Tha Peace member and College Park, GA duffle bag boy has reinvented his career with a new Def Jam deal and G.O.O.D music stamp and dropping his debut solo album August 14th “Based On A T.R.U. Story” is only the beginning.
After a year where we witnessed features from 2 Chainz everywhere from Nicki’s “Beez In Tha Trap” to Yeezy hit single “Mercy” the hair weave killers solo album provides a glance in the life of “Dope Peddler” who still “Luv Dem Strippers” and will still start a “Riot” if pushed.
While I enjoyed the production 2 Chainz chose with tracks from producers Drumma Boy, Sonny Digital, Southside, Lex Luger and Mike Will Made It to just name a few the lyrical content wasn’t near what I was hoping for. I was impressed tho with the supporting cast 2 Chainz has on the album. “Based On A T.R U. Story ” has an all star cast including Kanye, Mike Poser, The-Dream, John Legend and Scarface.
My Favorite track on the album is “Ghetto Dreams” ft. John Legend and Scarface. I think it’s the realest track on the entire album and the soulful melody Legend brings and the hard rhymes by Houston legend Scarface take it to another level. “Dope Peddler” , “Wut We Doin” and “Birthday Song” will knock in the club while ladies may love “In Town” and “Extremely Blessed” ft. The-Dream.
While Tity 2 necklace didn’t deliver the possible album of the year I was looking for I enjoyed the album for what it is. I don’t think 2 Chainz was looking to give us a masterpiece but introduce us to his life coming up in Southside Atlanta. Don’t take my word tho go purchase “Based On A T.R.U. Story” on iTunes.

Checkout what the other blogs rated 2 Chainz debut album below:
Rolling Stone: His commercial solo debut is packed with A-list cameos and producers, but 2 Chainz commands the spotlight—rapping about success and sex with the irrepressible enthusiasm of the upstart he isn’t. 3.5/5
Los Angeles Times: Even guest appearances by Kanye West and Nicki Minaj don’t provide much boost. Other cameos include Drake, The-Dream, and John Legend, and they’re all so much better at their art that rather than their host stepping up to their level, 2 Chainz drags them down. 1/4
USA Today: His major label solo debut offers little more than the typical club anthems and swaggering boasts. Guests provide the best moments. “No Lie” with Drake and “Birthday Song” with Kanye West are as good as it gets. 2/4
The Boston Globe: A highly buzzed about hip-hop artist should make a debut that moves the genre’s dial ahead a notch. Unfortunately, this long-awaited CD from the Georgia MC relies on too many cliches to be a revelation.
The Washington Post: It’s hard to resist repetitive hooks that aren’t exactly catchy or well-constructed but still get stuck in one’s head even after a single listen. … There are laughably simple declarations (“She got a big booty / So I call her Big Booty,” from “Birthday”), but also clever punch lines.
