Ra Matthews was born and raised in West Philadelphia, in a high-crime area like most Philadelphians. In middle school, around the age of 12 he began to appreciate the structure of a song, and started writing raps, with the influence of Nas, DMX and Eminem. Ra Matthews did not look like a “rapper”, so he would always be challeged by other students to battle . . . Their mistake. His rhymes were much more mature than others his age.
His rapper reputation followed him to high school. The battles and freestyles continued, only getting better at his craft. In 10th grade, after school, Ra began to experiment with radios, tapes, computers and microphones in order to make his own mixtape. People quickly caught wind to the talent and began requesting CDs.
In 2007, Ra left Philadelphia in hopes of pursuing a college degree in Psychology, but returned after a two years to pursue his music career. Once returning to Philly, he started networking and writing, and had the chance to work with inner-city artists such as Daddy O, Tommy Stars, Young Hot and Ace Porter. Over some time, he also had the chance to interact with renown artists and producers like DJ Diamond Kuts, Pop Wansel, Sterling Simms, Travis Porter, OJ the Juiceman, Maino, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Meek Mill, Cassidy, Big Mike, Nicki Minaj and more
Now with hopes of captivating the world, Ra Matthews is realeasing a new album entitled “The UPper Room” some time in 2012. Below are some links to find updates!
