If you are anywhere on the west coast like myself…I’m sure you assumed that the only thing worth watching coming out of Alabama was the Rolling Tide. Luckily for myself I now have a platform where I have the ability and duty to dig up new talent from cities and burrows where most aren’t looking. This week Who Got Next features a savvy MC out of Huntsville, AL by the name of ST 2Lettaz. Take a few minutes to check out his new project “G…Growth and Development” below along with his interview…#NoGimmicks
What’s going on brotha!! appreciate you holding us down with this exclusive interview man I see you doing your thing. Why don’t you go ahead and introduce yourself to our readers…
ST: Thanks for the love man. I’m the incomparable ST 2 Lettaz. I’m from Huntsville Alabama (Roll Tide) And from time to time I make really awesome rap songs!
I have been meaning to ask you this for the longest time but what exactly are the 2 Letters that your name represents?
ST: Chick just asked me this last night bro! It’s just the first two letters of my name. My real name is Stephen and one of the homies just started callin me that back when I had a really terrible rap name. I think your nickname gotta be given to you so I just ran with it. Now days it prolly stands for “Somewhere Toasted” cuz I just got my right to consume mind altering substances back… So ten times outta ten when this interview drops ill be somewhere toasted. Cheers
You put in plenty of work with the production team, Block Beattaz, on your most resent project “G… Growth and Development” how was it working with their creative minds and did you learn anything significant during you all’s creative process?
ST: Block Beattaz are my day one guys man so we just do what we been doin for years. I think with G I was in super serious it’s my first album mode. Now I’m just havin’ fun and makin’ music I feel at the time. Me and Mali worked real close on that album and we’ve totally switched modes on the new records we been recording and just not have a limit on what we are capable of doing.
Now I first fell across some of your music just under a year ago, right around the split of the hip hop duo G-Side, Which you used to be apart of. How has that experience help mold you into the artist you are today?
ST: I wouldn’t be who I am as a man or artist if it wasn’t for G-Side. The split was more about personal issues than business because the wise business move would have been to keep pushing no matter what’s going on behind the scenes. We had been doing it since 04 and we just grew apart. Today we’re all good tho. We were never enemies just needed some time apart to become who we are going to become as men and individuals.
With all of the overseas love you have been getting this past year is it fair to say that market is where we can find the majority of 2Lettaz core an base? Have you noticed any major difference between the UK and US as far as how fans and listeners gravitate towards up and coming artist.
ST: Man I have no idea where the core is. I’m not sure if there is a central area where my supporters reside, it’s pretty spread out man. G-Side touched a lot of souls. The ones who rocked with us really really went hard for us.
I love the fact that I am in the position to give up and coming artist a platform to voice themselves and speak their mind a bit. This is where you are free to say or express anything you please brotha…
ST: Wow I can say anything?? Ah man. Well first Cp from the Block Beattaz originated the whole screw one word in the verse thing in like ’02… Little known fact… Ummm my album G: The Growth & Development is on itunes and google play and basically any other music outlet online. Check that junt out if you haven’t. I promise to never rock animal prints but floral, thats another story. I’ve got like 3 or 4 projects dropping in the coming months: Doobies Brothaz w/ Jackie Chain, did a project with a production company out of Sweden called Level 8, it came out really dope… Me, Mic Strange & my guy Norty Hugh. I got a lot of new solo material I’ve just been hanging onto. I gotta present it the right way. And I’ll say this. I gotta pretty big surprise comin before the yrs out… Top secret shit g4g classified but ull kno when u kno.
Before we get back to handling biz on both ends why don’t you let everyone know what we can expect from 2Lettaz in the future and where they can find you on the net. Thanks and bruh! Signing out.
