It has only been 31 days into 2013 and it ALREADY has been a fuckery filled year. Some events have been good, some are bad and some are just down right ratchet. Here’s a recap of some of the events that made headlines in the first 31 in 2013!
No Love For Sosa: Chief Keef Goes To Jail
This month the keefster found himself blod-clot crying in front of judge for violating his parole by appearing in an interview for pitchfork magazine at gun range. A few days later, news broke that Chief Keef (who’s real name is Keith Cozart) was being sued for child support by his middle school age baby mother (just plain ratchet, ratchet, RATCHET!)
The judge ONLY sentenced Keef to 6 months in jail (Juvenile at that) and Keef supporters immediately ran out and made FREE SOSA shirts (As if the industry is going to miss his presence). Rumors have been swirling since last year that Keef was on the verge of getting dropped from his recording home (Interscope) when he failed to show up for his own video shoot. With his recent arrest and the constant that surrounds him, I wouldn’t be surprised if those rumors became true in 2013.
Lupe Fiasco Crashes The Inauguration
The geniuses over at Start Up! Rock On! decided to book Revolutionary MC, Lupe Fiasco to headline their inauguration event celebrating the reelection of President Barack Obama. Instead of performing his usual set, the rapper decided to repeat the lyrics to his politically charged track “Words I Never Said” over, and over, and over, and over again until the promoters of the event eventually escorted him off the stage.
Attendees immediately took to twitter and began tweeting about this show gone wrong and Lupe was labeled everything from a crazy person to an attention whore. Either way Lupe made a statement, something that has become the Fiasco way.
“Call Jay Have Him Close The Deal”: Drake Being Traded To Roc Nation?
Reports popped up this month that Roc Nation was in talks of buying the rights to Drake from Young Money to the tune of 50 million dollars. Last year, Drake cleaned house by dumping his management team, Hip Hop Since 1978, the same team that represents Lil’ Wayne. Now deals have been officially made, but I can Drake screaming out the Roc and holding up the diamond in no time.
King Bey Lip-Syncs The National Anthem
The ENTIRE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA got in their feelings when word got out that Beyonce lip-synced the National Anthem at President Obama’s Inauguration! Republicans even called for Obama’s immediate resignation because of the fiasco. I’m going to need that entire party to find a stadium in DC and HAVE A DAMN SEAT!
Rick Ross A Target For Drive By Shooting
18 rounds were fired at Rick Ross and his girlfriend in Miami earlier this month, in an apparent attempt to murder the Maybach Music emcee. After word of the drive-by got out, people speculate that Ross actually had the incident planned in order to gain street cred. I don’t know who the hell would want to get shot by choice and I don’t know why at this point in his career, Ross would even care about the amount of street cred he has. I guess that’s just hip hop.
Jay-Z Signs Timbaland To Roc Nation
This is the best news ever! In the ultimate power move, Jay-Z signed super producer Timbaland to his Roc Nation imprint. These two have been making hits together for years! I am excited to see whats to come from their union.
R&Beef: Chris Brown and Frank Ocean’s Studio Show Down!
In the first 31 of 13, two of the hottest R&B acts threw hands over a parking spot y’all! Chris Brown and Frank Ocean got into an altercation at an LA studio and all hell broke lose. There have been different accounts of the fight from both camps but no solid video evidence. Frank was injured in the scuffle and decided to press charges on Fist Breezy, if convicted Chris could face some major time in the slammer.
I say in 2013, someone in Chris’ camp needs to force him to get his act together! For the past couple years all physical altercations in R&B seemed to all have involved him! Hopefully this year we get a Chris Brown X Justin Beiber Beef.
There you have it, those were the major headlines that dominated the media in the first 31 days of 2013. We here have had an AWESOME 31 and we plan to bring you more interviews, more exclusives, and MORE HIP HOP! What have been your favorite moments so far? Drop us a comment and let us know if we missed anything!
