Welp, now the games have begun. With the first big upset in college football this 2013 season, the 5th ranked Stanford Cardinals have beat the 3rd raked Oregon Ducks in what was a old fashion Pac-12 showdown.
Oregon quarterback and Heisman hopeful Marcus Mariota was contained last night tossing 2 touchdowns and going 20-24 for a total of 250 passing yards. The fast paced, high octane offense just couldn’t get on track last night. Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney was the player of the night in my eyes as he ran for 157 yards which allowed Stanford to control the game clock and keep Oregon’s offense off the field.
Stanford led Oregon 26-0 early in the fourth quarter but the Oregon Ducks rallied back to make it a 26-20 ball game with 2:12 left however they could not recover their second on-side kick which was the nail in the coffin. Oregon had National championship dreams to start the season but now they will need alot to happen to get back in that race. With a few big games coming up this weekend that could determine where Stanford and Oregon fall in the BCS standings, stay tuned to HHS1987 for more details on the 2013 NCAA National Championship picture.
