After notable Disney actress and singer, Zendaya, dropped out of playing Aaliyah in the upcoming biopic, she has now been replaced by 23-year old Alexandra Shipp. Shipp is best known for her role as Kara Tatiana Rush on the Nickelodeon series House of Anubis, Ray Donovan, Awkward, and Switched at Birth.
Wendy Williams announced via Facebook & Twitter that she will be joining Debra Chase as an executive producer for the Lifetime movie.
“Wendy and Wendy Williams Productions are proud to announce that they are joining Debra Martin Chase as executive producers on the Aaliyah Lifetime movie! Production begins later this month with Alexandra Shipp playing Aaliyah.”

Aaliyah’s family has not been on board with the production and has since hired a lawyer to cease this from continuing.
The biopic, entitled, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, is set to start filming later this month and will premiere in the fall. The script is based off Christopher Farley’s best-selling biography Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.
