Here is KickRocs.com’s interview with legendary emcee Raekwon “The Chef” of Wu-Tang Clan. While in town to perform for the RVA Grooves summer concert series, Raekwon aka “The Chef” of Wu-Tang Clan took time out of his night to chop it up with KickRocs founder, Nana Dadzie, about a few things he has cooking in the kitchen including his upcoming album Fly International Luxurious Art (F.I.L.A.).

As the year 2015 nears, so does the upcoming 20th anniversary of his classic 1995 album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Better known in the trenches of hip-hop history as “The Purple Tape,” the album was one of the core pieces that made the Wu-Tang Clan a global movement. Reflecting on the time when he put that album together, Raekwon admits he was surprised at how well the personal tales of the hood he conveyed on the album were accepted by mainstream America–and eventually the world. Is there something special planned for the anniversary, you bet your purple ass there is…stay tuned.

The conversation closes with Raekwon discussing his work with younger artists like Freddie Gibbs, Schoolboy Q, and others. He feels it’s his obligation to work with and continue to prove his talents to the new generation of hip-hop so that when their time comes and the “silver surfers” are sprinkled through their hairs, they too can pass on the same wisdom.

Interview filmed and edited by James Patterson and Nana Dadzie. Press play.
