Hip-Hop, and music in general, needs artists like Danny Matos. His blood, sweat, tears, and undeniable passion seep through his verses on The Hangar EP, and it makes for a gripping, captivating listen from a newcomer in the New York City rap scene.

Given his knack for lyricism, it’s no surprise that Matos has roots in poetry. In the past few years alone, he has built a strong name for himself and hastaken home awards for his pen game across NYC, but he doesn’t rely on his background to influence his delivery. Instead, Matos flows on the mic like he’s been rapping for years, finding his lane in the stirring grooves supplied by Rusty Mack, with additional instrumentation provided by the Red Walrus (both of Harry Fraud’s Surf School team).

Their sonically rich instrumentals anchor the entirety of The Hangar EP, a project that highlights the fire living within Matos’ artistry. That’s made clear from the jump on opener “New Genre,” where he declares that “being honest” deserves its own genre in music. On the follow-up single, “Let Go,” Danny opens up to his listeners, offering a glimpse into his struggles with self-awareness and attachment. Elsewhere, he explores relationships on the lovelorn anthem “F*ck My Head Up,” and straight-up ‘goes in’ on the closing banger, “On Fire.”

Across the seven tracks on The Hangar EP, Matos proves his worth both as an emcee and as a lyricist. He also shows his ability to craft a cohesive and well-rounded piece of art. Don’t sleep on the kid. The Hangar EP is now available for stream/download, and can be purchased through all major digital retailers for those that would like to support.
