After sharing his first body of work Jentrify a little over a month ago, rising Oakland rapper Elujay has shared the video for his standout single “Flagrant” featuring YMTK. With over 600k plays on Spotify and referred to as one of the “smoothest” songs you’ll hear all year, Elujay’s “Flagrant” track is a soulful and modest love song about pursuing a woman. In his feature with Revolt, Elujay expresses that “Flagrant” is about ‘going with the flow’ when it comes to attraction and letting your lover make up their own mind.
In the light-hearted video for “Flagrant” directed by Adrian Per, Elujay plays YMTK 1:1 at Mosswood Park in Oakland, CA, while a girl who they have mutual feelings for watches. After Elujay loses to YMTK in a competitive match-up, the girl of their dreams chooses to get to know Elujay despite YMTK’s win. This is the first video off of Jentrify, which was described as a “love letter to a changing Oakland” by Noisey. Elujay’s Jentrify project continues to bridge the gap between hip-hop and neo-soul, with a bit of Oakland flair, as the young emcee and producer pushes forward with his blended sound.
You can catch Elujay on The Loner Tour with Sylvan LaCue and Khary, starting December 5 at Webster Hall in New York City.
