Trae Tha Truth has been leading rescue efforts in his hometown since Hurricane Harvey struck this summer through his Relief Gang organization, an undertaking he has remained hands-on with even to this day. Trae was honored by Houston last week as part of the city’s new day: Houston’s Harvey Heroes Day (Feb. 27). This is Trae’s second day in the city of Houston, following Trae Day (July 22), which has been going strong for over 10 years now. Inspired by the resilience of the community and the work that’s been done, Trae is returning to music with a new album, Hometown Hero.
Trae’s new single, “What About Us,” documents Trae’s efforts towards rebuilding Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey with samples from news clips and testimonials from those who Trae helped in the last six months as part of his Relief Gang initiative. The song itself reflects back on the tragedy and reminds the rest of the world not to forget about the destruction that was left behind. The single will appear on Hometown Hero, due out March 16 and his first under the new moniker “King Truth.” Features on the album include Young Thug, Mozzy, and T.I.
