Bronx flame-spitter Cory Gunz is back, but on the reflective tip following the legal troubles that thwarted his rapid ascent in the industry: “Overdue, I guess it’s why they keep the waitin’ on me, ‘Paradise’ ain’t a location or vacation for me/Feeling decent with no precinct or a station on me, livin’ life every day a celebration for me.”
Cory’s vision of “Paradise” has changed drastically, but it sounds like he wouldn’t have it any other way. Gunz is joined on this summery cut with substance by DMV standout and KungFu Grand Champion (The SHAOLIN resurgence continues!!!) Philippe “Rap is a Martial Art” Prosper who uses the visuals he co-directed with James Whitley to show and prove both lyrically and in terms of his karate chops (please forgive me). Produced by Mantra and Tony Alany, “Paradise” is the rare warm weather record that’s equal parts potent and fun, especially if you’re wearing Calvin Klein.
