Rumors of Jay-Z becoming Hip-Hop’s first billionaire have been circulating for some time now. It’s been a highly speculated event and sort of a competition, with people thinking it would either be him or his Bad Boy Records mogul counterpart, Diddy. Even Dr. Dre was in the running for a while. Today, Forbes has officially proclaimed Jay-Z as reaching the threshold first and it really shouldn’t be a surprise.
The revered musician and entrepreneur has been using his business savvy since stepping into the rap game in the late 80’s, turning himself from a street hustler into one of the most sought after emcees and businessmen in the music industry. How did the Jigga Man position himself to accumulated such a fortune? Well, on top of owning his Roc Nation brand, Jay’s also got his hand in the liquor industry with Armand de Brignac and D’Ussé. He’s also made lucrative cash investments, owns real estate, has a more than impressive art collection, Tidal, and not to mention his music catalog (which he owns all the masters to).
