Jordan Peele’s “Us” raked in well over $70 million in its box office debut this weekend. The psychological thriller took the No. 1 spot as the second-best opening weekend of 2019 – behind Disney’s Captain Marvel ($152M). Jay Z was amongst the elite who celebrated in the movie’s success and made sure congratulations were in order for Peele. The two initially connected at an Oscars after-party in 2018 where Peele expressed a concern to Jay: “I don’t think I’ll be able to replicate the success of Get Out.”
Jay, of course, offered up some encouraging words. Fast forward to the present day, and “Us” has the largest weekend for an original horror movie and the biggest launch for an original R-rated film since “Ted.”
