Critically acclaimed UK lyricist, Loyle Carner joins forces with prolific producer Madlib, for their new video single “Yesterday.” With this release being Loyle’s first of 2020 it was super special for him to collaborate with Madlib, his musical hero. The song arrives right on time with its politically charged message that takes an observation of how the racial climate is the same today as it was yesterday or even yesteryears.
While he originally recorded this song two years ago, the message still hits just as hard today. In the video that was directed by Loyle and his brother Ryan (The Coyle-Larner Brothers), they shoot one continuous take that shows a coming-of-age story. As Loyle grows from a boy to a man in the cinematic video, you can see that the world’s political challenges have not stopped but just transformed with time.
