Music artist Gio Franklin is a 6’4” tall, light-skinned, green-eyed, and extremely good-looking guy. Looking at his football god physique and musical prowess, you might wrongly assume his life has always been easy. The truth is, he had to overcome several challenges to get where he is today.
When he was 10 years old, Gio’s stepdad Eric Baston died, leaving his mother to raise him as a single mom. Soon after, several cousins and uncles died in quick succession. Instead of retreating and hiding in his grief, Gio used it as fuel to grow. He put his focus on being a good football player and making music.
Throughout high school, Gio played the outside linebacker and tight end positions. In fact, he received the Athletic All-American Honors when coming out of school. He went on to play for the Netflix series “Last Chance U” in Independence, Kansas. Just as he was getting playing time in freshman year, he tore his ACL before the season started.
Shortly after, he decided to take a break from school and focus on music full-time. He worked on and dropped his debut album, G STAR. It received a lot of attention in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. In the summer of that year, he moved to LA.
A lot of important people loved him in LA, like gaming creators FazeClan. He even got booked for a tour with artists GASHI and Tinashe. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic happened. and the tour was canceled.
At the same time, he met Adam Quinn, the CEO of The Apex Agency. Adam has a great eye for talent, and under his wing, Gio flourished. Adam showed him how to become a success in the music industry in LA. Gio also met celebrity vocal coach Nick Cooper.
At the beginning of the year, Gio dropped his second album, G STAR 2. Currently, he is collaborating with Cooper on another project. He is also planning to do business with Quinn and his newly launched Apex Records.
Along the journey to becoming a star, Gio has learned the power of intentions. Not long ago, he lost his favorite aunt. Even before coming to terms with that, his cousin Dashiza committed suicide from the pain of losing her mother.
Although their loss hurt him a lot, he summoned the strength and made more music to cope. Similarly, when he tore his ACL, he pivoted into another direction instead of using it as an excuse to grieve forever.
On top of that, Gio cites self-drive as another contributor to success. As a former athlete, he knows how vital self-motivation is. In his music, he uses the same drive he used in football. As a result, he has mastered a wide and unique vocal range, allowing him to stand out.
Additionally, he makes a wide variety of music that everyone can listen to. Although he is mainly a rapper and singer, he believes he can do whatever else he puts his mind to. He says, “You gotta shoot for the stars, never lose that childhood dream and drive to do what you wanna do. Anything is possible.”
Gio Franklin knows he is going to be number 1 one day. He is working towards becoming one of the biggest stars in the industry. He is aiming for multiple Grammys in different genres and even a few Oscars. And then, someday, he hopes to own a music label or talent agency.
