“Chasing Heaven” is a touching tribute to Blanco Balling’s late friend Chubbz. The track was penned sitting across from Chubbz while the two were on a private jet. Despite the occasion, Blanco felt that he needed to share some of the trauma he’d gone through on a track.
When Chubbz asked Blanco why he felt the need to write a pain song during such a momentous experience, Blanco explained “I live with my pain and if I wanted could let pain take over but I choose not to.”
Sadly, Chubbz passed away days after being on the private jet together. Sacramento native channeled the pain from Chubbz’s passing as well as the death of his younger brother for this track.
“This song is about people that choose to heal through drug abuse and why we must not judge them for at times its [the] people we love,” Blanco explained.
“Chasin Heaven” contrast his first two releases of the year which are more upbeat and trap-influenced. However, Blanco’s versatility and ability to cover different subject matter sets him apart from his California contemporaries.
