Two of Florida’s finest emcees, Jacksonville’s Dee Watkins and Orlando’s HotBoii, ignite a fire that burns as hot as the sunshine state in the brand new visual for “Been There Before,” which just dropped! The energy between Dee and HotBoii is infinite and harmonic, their aggressive lyrics are accented by their marked Florida drawls/Both rappers are strangely intensified in the melodies they sing, giving the song an eerie sense of calmly-assured violence.
The 23-year-old Dee Watkins first caught mainstream attention when he shared a remix to “Act Up” by City Girls, garnering millions of streams across platforms. He proved that he was here to stay with his origin story, “Bad Ass Jit,” a slinky rider’s anthem that racked up more than 39 million YouTube videos (!!!) and inspired the late Young Dolph to hop on the remix. Dee built momentum in the streets with his Problem Child series of mixtapes, including regional hits like the Pitchfork-praised “Hell Raiser” and “Fake Sh*t” ft. NoCap. On the upcoming Problem Child 3, a return to Dee’s signature mixtape series after the release of Not One Of Them earlier this year, Dee reckons with his irresponsible past, seeking ways to better himself without forgetting the hard lessons he learned on the streets. Earlier this year, Dee performed songs from his two 2021 projects as an opener for Rod Wave’s “SoulFly Tour.”
Stay tuned for much more music from Dee Watkins in 2022.
