Today we had the opportunity to sit down with celebrated music group and label QEPD Records. We unpacked the influence a label plays in any musicians career as well as QEPD’s role in leveraging their platform to help artists succeed. The music-making experience is not just getting into the booth and recording your lines. n artist needs to work with a music label that best understands their sound and can easily bring out their best. This is something that QEPD Records executes remarkably well.
HHS1987: So great of you to join us! Let’s talk about your origin! How did QEPD Records come to be, and what is your involvement with the label?
QEPD started as a group of friends with passion for music and knowledge about the music industry, who wanted to help other artists share their vision and achieve their career goals.
HHS1987: That’s amazing! Where did the name QEPD Records come from?
We chose QEPD because we thought it would stick to people’s heads as it is commonly used in Spanish and it translates to English as R.I.P.
HHS1987: Love the wordplay there! Could you walk me through an average week running the label?
We usually kick off every week by reading all the emails we receive from new artists and PR agents, to choose new publications for our blog and then we continue to schedule what we have to do during that week. An average week includes meetings with artists, photoshoots and content creation for different outlets.
HHS1987: There’s so much legwork required to get an artists image of the ground, thanks for unpacking that. What do you look for when signing new artists?
We look at various factors when signing new artists, but our main focus is their authenticity, good online presence and a solid fan base that we can help grow.
HHS1987: These past couple of years have definitely been unprecedented. What part has been the biggest challenge that you faced in terms of getting this label off the ground?
As we wanted to not only be a label but also a music blog, our beginnings were not easy cause we had to grow our roster and presence for both aspects of the business.
HHS1987: With all the noise in the industry, it’s important that artists can find a team they can work with, and hopefully call –What is unique about QEPD Records that you want to showcase? What are you bringing to the table that you’ve noticed most labels have not?
As mentioned above, we not only run a label but also a blog, which is valuable for our artists as it can help boosting their first releases and capture new fans. Such a profound culture makes QEPD Records a promising hub for musical talent and the perfect home for any artist seeking to grow their brand.
