The title says it all. When producer OTV Ian looks back on the making of the Bandz Baby Flow State album, he keeps returning to one idea: everyone in the room was locked in. The project, released recently, features a number of beats from OTV Ian and KSully, and it has become one of the defining chapters of his run with Out The Vault Records.
Inside the Bandz Baby Flow State Album Sessions
According to OTV Ian, the recording process was as fluid as the title suggests. “Everybody was in flow state,” he says of the studio sessions, calling the experience one of the most memorable of his career. The work took place within the circle he has built around Out The Vault, which runs sessions largely in the Boston area and out of Studio NH in Bedford, New Hampshire, and Do Over Don’t Studios in Quincy, Massachusetts.
For OTV Ian, the Flow State project also illustrates how he prefers to work. He doesn’t chase a single formula. His approach is to serve the moment, or, in his words, whatever the vibe needs.
The Production Team
Behind the boards, the Bandz Baby Flow State album reflects a partnership between OTV Ian and KSully, an owner of Do Over Don’t Studios. OTV Ian also works with co-founder Jay R and Project X of Studio NH. His palette spans multiple eras, from the soulful loops of J Dilla and Nujabes to the hard-hitting 808 sound of Southside, TM88 and Lex Luger, plus the melodic bounce of Pi’erre Bourne and Internet Money producers.
What Comes Next: OMGitsFendi and Montana 99
After the release of the Bandz Baby Flow State album, OTV Ian has his eye on new sessions. He says he wants to work more with OMGitsFendi and Montana 99 this fall, and he promises “awesome music” from those collaborations. Beyond that, expect more content, more clothing, and more music from Out The Vault, which he says is going global.
