With many rap artists, identity and distinction serve as a badge of honor and respect in the Hip-Hop community. Meet Trey Francis, also known as Nonchalant Sosaa, a gifted rap artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Last week, I caught up with him fresh off the stage to ask a few questions, and here is what he shared with us!

What is your creative process while recording in the studio?

“First, I enter the recording booth, unlock my iPhone, open the notes app, and complete songs on my phone.

I have at least four albums worth of song lyrics that I am currently working on. It feels lovely to receive inspiration from some of my favorite rap artists, such as Kevin Gates and Kendrick Lamar.”

Speaking of your favorite rap artists, what about these artists inspire you to write songs and perform?

“What inspires me about Kevin and Kendrick is their energy, motivation, and pain. It is challenging for upcoming artists to make a name for themselves, and usually, rising artists like myself tend to have a lot in common with other artists who do their best to make their dream come true.

Kevin and Kendrick are not afraid to be who they are, considering where they have come from. I am sure that every artist in the making has experienced some form of adversity, so it allows me to portray that in my music.”

What makes me different from other artists?

“I have my style, unique, and I love to push myself to become an excellent rapper — in my city. People will hate on you and make sure that you don’t become successful, so I want to become successful and become “A Well-Known Famous Rapper.” I know my worth”!

Any dream collaborations and why?

“Well, again, my first choice would be Kevin Gates. Kevin and I are both from Louisiana, so that would make perfect sense. I support GOOD artists from my home state who are making a difference in the music community.

I need to understand what I’m listening to and not need a “hood phonics” book to understand—too much mumble-jumble. I am a classic Hip Hop artist that understands and appreciate my genre. I don’t release trash. EVER!

My second choice is Chief Keef. Our song would be BUSSING! Our styles could fuse to create something magical.”

Your Zodiac?

“I am a proud Scorpio! November 2, 1996.”

Favorite Foods?

“I love chicken. Sorry, Vegans! Mac and cheese are another one of my go-to’s. I’ve got to have it!”

When can we expect new music from you?

“2023 is my year to present you with all the new material! My fans and supporters have been waiting for a long time, and I don’t want to keep them waiting any longer. This is going to be a year to remember. I am in the studio non-stop, working on new material.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?

“In 5 years, I see myself healthy, wealthy, and building my empire to establish greatness. Giving people the opportunity I strived to give myself”.
