Jesse Neo is a DJ, singer-songwriter, and music producer from Australia. However, for the past few years, he has been most known for his music production platform, Gemtracks.
Here’s an interview with Jesse Neo…
Tell us about yourself and how you founded Gemtracks?
I’ve been a musician for as young as I could remember. The first instrument that I played was the violin, which was taught to me by Australian violinist, Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich. In college, I did a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and eventually a Ph.D. too. It was then I realized my skills from my university studies could be applied to the music industry, and this was something that really sparked the fire in me as I had my feet on both sides already. This was during when many artists were out of work due to the pandemic.
Where are you from? Age?
I was born in Sydney, Australia, but now I live in Los Angeles. As of 2022, I am 25 years old.
What exactly does Gemtracks do?
Gemtracks is a music-industry marketplace and social network. It allows accomplished music producers to sell the rights of the beats they have made to artists. Freelancers can also offer their services (such as songwriting), studio owners can list their studios, and music curators can accept pitches to their playlists. All in all, it’s a platform for new artists to work together with accomplished musicians, and ultimately get their music into the world. Gemtracks currently gets more than 20,000 daily users. Eventually, we want to expand into helping artists do photoshoots and film music videos too.
What makes Gemtracks stand out from other music platforms?
Not only does Gemtracks operate as a marketplace to buy and sell beats and other assets, it also encourages the buying and selling of the rights of them as well. This way, the seller can charge higher prices, and the buyer can be sure they own the songs and won’t have to pay royalties when they start making money. As you can see, this is a win-win situation for both sides.
Where do you see Gemtracks in 5 years?
I imagine Gemtracks offers more features on the website, as well as having its own mobile applications. In fact, I imagine the mobile application to be more popular than the website when it gets released. I really want to use technology to increase creativity and collaborations between artists, worldwide.
What are you currently working on?
Besides working on Gemtracks, I am also working on some music that I will release soon. They will all be in collaboration with the producers and musicians that have joined Gemtracks. I think as the founder of the platform, this is a fantastic way to demonstrate what it can do and the power of online worldwide collaboration.
