What first got you into music?

This is a hard question to answer. Everything in my entire life has been influenced by music. From the first day I can remember I have always loved music. If I were to choose one particular thing it would be my family. My family has been around music my entire life. I was born loving music.

Who inspired you to make music?

Again, my family inspired me. I mentioned in my first answer it was my family, and it’s true. A lot of people in my family are in the world of arts. Some make music, some are creatives, some are managers. Often they would look at me for advice or opinion on what they were working on and a lot of the time I would actually help write a lot of the music or come up with a lot of the concepts for the music videos. I never thought I was good enough to be accepted in the music industry and I was always discouraged by the fact that so many people around me are in the music industry. I didn’t feel my stuff was good enough and I didn’t want to be looked at as someone who was just copying what their family members were doing.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I’d describe my music with one word, and that word is “Wavie.” I don’t mean it in the sense of my music flows,  music is like a title wave. Some songs will build your emotions so high that you want to scream, others will make you want to dance and a lot of the time my music is relatable. There are songs in music that will help you in the low points, that is my music. My music helps when you’re feeling lower than the ocean and you’re feeling like you’re sinking.  My background is Jamaican, therefore I like to have a small island influence on everything I do. Sometimes it’s like a game of I spy. You have to search for the island vibe in every song but it is there if you find it.

What is your creative process like?

I first start by finding a beat I like, in the meantime I would listen to that on repeat for an hour or so while doing other things or completing another task.  I allow freestyle flow to my mind.  After the first hour of listening to the beat, I then jump on to the mic and I do some rough freestyle recordings.  Sometimes 10 times , sometimes 50 times.  After that I cycle through and figure out what I like and don’t like. I would delete everything I came up with and then begin to write the song.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I would be honored to collaborate one day with Lil Baby. He’s one of my favorite artists. As well as Justin Bieber! Being that he’s also Canadian it would be a cool vibe!

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

It would be an honor to one day open for Drake, Lil Baby or Justin Bieber.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

If you believe it you can achieve it and don’t give up on your dreams. Keep working when the day it will pay off.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I’m an amazing chef!  But it’s useless because I would like someone to cook for me.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

My own. Normally I sing songs that I want to make.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

If I wasn’t doing my music career, I’d be creating something. I’m not happy if I’m not creating! If it’s not music, then I’m creating art pieces or painting or murals. If it’s not painting on canvas, I’m designing clothing or rearranging my house.

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

I love any show that I have had the opportunity to perform at. I couldn’t choose one, as every opportunity has its own memorable moments. I always have upcoming shows and performances depending when you’re reading this, check out my website www.waviemadeit.com for any updates on upcoming shows.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The Internet has impacted the music business in such a positive way, it’s been wonderful! It’s become another way to be able to market the stuff we do to the world. If there was no internet the only people would see or hear about us is your friends family and neighborhood.  I’m trying to use all the platforms to my advantage. There’s so many outlets and platforms, we just need to try and use them all.

What is your favorite song to perform?

My favorite song to perform is called “Fountain” because I love the drop and the hook of the song and the meaning behind it.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice would be from my manager! He said, “ You are good enough. You are better than anyone else in our city doing it. You just gotta believe In yourself.”

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would change the competition. I would change it to being a friendly place and everyone wants to work together and help each other out. The music industry is usually just everyone competing with each other and I think we all need to show support and help build each other up.

What’s next for you?

I’m in Album mode. I have put out a few singles and have a few more I will drop in the near future. Right now I want to put out this album. I have been working so hard on this album! It’s almost time to unleash the wave.
