Many of us have been transported to places in the unknown vistas of our minds through music. Its power can only be expressed in one language – music itself. To master the language of music is to get closer to the essence of life. No wonder it’s not easy. For pianist Rossina Grieco, becoming a master pianist was a truly fulfilling journey. In this article, she shares insights on what it takes to become a successful pianist.
Successful pianists are not born. They are made. And it takes everything to become one. Rossina adds, “It’s like walking through fire or walking on water. It’s easy to want to start to play the piano, difficult to start playing it, and tougher still to truly master it. However, if you are determined to persist, I’ll not sugarcoat the truth for you. You constantly have to improve your skill set without letting your passion ebb away. Becoming a seasoned pianist is as rewarding an experience as it’s difficult. You’ll often have to choose between being with others and being with your instrument. But you must give it your entire heart. It really comes down to love and passion for what you do. Passion will help you overcome all challenges that appear on your path to success.”
It’s good when artists like Rossina say it as it is so that budding musicians don’t begin their journey with misconceptions. She further says, “There’s no use in pretending to want to play or pretending to become a pianist. That’ll be a total waste of time and often disillusioning. I want you to know the perils involved, new depths of your own self that you will encounter that could make you question everything.”
The one thing that kept Rossina going was her goal in the end. She is positive that all the effort, hours, and dedication took her exactly where she wanted to be: in front of a packed audience doing what she loves most. “Is it worth it? It most certainly is, more than anything else. Embrace your love for the piano, and remember to stay focused on your end goal.”
