U-Warrior‘s new album ALWAYS BELIEVE is much more than just a product of their hard work over almost the last four years. The album reflects a philosophy that has shaped the group from the beginning: keep moving forward, trust the creative process, and never give up on the vision. Created by three producers from Berlin, who are well-grounded in hip-hop culture, the album involves various artists from across the United States.
Their commitment to perseverance came with personal meaning for the group. The long period of time between the release of their debut single, “Warrior,” and now ALWAYS BELIEVE included situations that could have easily brought the project to a halt. One of the group members was suffering from a very serious illness, but ultimately overcame it through what the group describes as a strong fighting spirit. At the same time, the producers continued working within Germany’s music industry, helping other artists find success through production and other behind-the-scenes efforts.
U-Warrior didn’t rush the album to meet a deadline; they allowed the project to develop naturally.
From “Warrior” to ALWAYS BELIEVE
The initial plan was clear from the very beginning: to make an album. The only obstacle was letting the situation around the group decide at what point in time the album could finally be completed. Looking back, U-Warrior thinks that additional time only benefited the music.
U-Warrior compares the album’s process to the aging of fine wine, suggesting that ALWAYS BELIEVE matured through the years it spent in development. About half of the album was already in place by the time the producers traveled through the United States back in 2021, but completing the remaining material proved to be a much more involved process.
That extended process also reflects how seriously U-Warrior approaches its music. The group has made it clear that it does not simply release track after track without considering whether each song fulfills its intended purpose. When asked whether they scrapped a song because it failed to reach the standard they had established, the answer was revealing: doing so would have amounted to giving up.
Building Bridges Through Hip-Hop
This philosophy also contributed to the album’s international approach. For U-Warrior, relations with American hip-hop began over a decade ago, traveling around the country, forming their experience of culture. In 2021, the producers made another road trip, visiting several cities, meeting artists, filming content, and building bridges that would become part of the album’s story.
The trip itself did not always go according to plan. At one point, the group mistakenly believed Slatt Zy was from Tallahassee and planned their route accordingly. After realizing that he was actually from Chattanooga, Tennessee, the producers changed course and drove from New Orleans toward Detroit, stopping in Chattanooga to incorporate the shoot into their journey. The same trip put them in orbit with artists like Juvenile and Obie Trice, while time spent in Chicago led to relationships that extended beyond the original creative work.
Those experiences became part of U-Warrior’s approach to collaboration that is featured throughout ALWAYS BELIEVE. The album includes various generations, regions, and styles of music. It features voices from Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, the American South, and the West Coast. Yet U-Warrior’s goal was never to reproduce American hip-hop from Berlin. Having studied and absorbed the culture since childhood and experienced it firsthand through years of travel, the producers developed their own interpretation of what they love. At the center of that interpretation is passion.
For U-Warrior, ALWAYS BELIEVE serves as both an album and a reminder that creative work requires patience. The group hopes listeners come away inspired to create something timeless, take their time, and resist the pressure to constantly follow the noise surrounding modern music. Apart from this album, the producers have a few more projects in the works, including two EPs, a collaboration with a legendary artist from Detroit, and even a second album.
