As the court case carries on, we are now learning exactly how much P, Robin, and T.I. made from the infectious smash. Trial experts agreed that the song earned $16.6 million total. Of that $700,000 went to T.I., Robin & Pharrell both earned over $5 million each, and Interscope, Universal Music Group, and Star Trak labels all split the remainder.
Vice President of Quincy Jones’ music-publishing firm, Nancie Stern, has estimated that if Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up” had been used for “Blurred Lines,” the Gaye estate would be entitled to 50% ownership of the song. The Gaye family is also seeking overhead costs and a portion of Robin’s $12 million tour earnings and $4 million in publishing revenue.
According to Business Insider, experts from the Gaye representatives have wrapped up their testimonies and T.I. and Pharrell were scheduled to take the witness stand yesterday, Wednesday, March 4th.
