A lot has changed for Tsu Surf since we spoke to him seven months ago. In our last interview with the New Jersey phenom he was gearing up to liberate Newark, was unsure who he would battle next, and it was only speculated that he would step into battle with Murda Mook. Fast forward to January 22nd 2016, Newark was successfully released, he added a battle against Aye Verb under his belt, and contracts are being drafted for Tsu Surf to take on Mook.
While he was at Ethik Clothing in Philly for a fan meet and greet Tsu Surf, spoke to HHS1987’s E-Money and Rick Dange about everything he has going on. He explains that Newark was delayed for close to a year but he’s happy for the set back since it led to the addition of some producers such as Charlie Heat and collaborator Louie V Gutta, who joins him on “AintNoFuccinAround.” Surf opens up about the features he picked for the project explaining why he kept them to a minimum as well as why he enlisted Joe Budden, Jadakiss, Styles P, Manolo Rose, and the others to join him on the project. Newark was just the beginning of what Surf has planned for his music, he tells us that he is currently working on a Gangsta Grillz mixtape and an EP.
Although his current focus is making music, Tsu Surf explains that he still has the battle rap culture on his back. He has a forthcoming two-on-two where he will team up with Tay Roc to take on DNA and K-Shine occurring sometime in March while his deal to battle Murda Mook is still being ironed out. He elaborates on why he is glad that he is being named in other people’s battles, what the culture needs to advance to the next level, and more.
