College is going to be a little bit cooler for students at Armstrong State University in Savannah Georgia. The university has announced that they have added a new course titled, “OutKast and the Rise of Hip Hop South.” Professor, Regina Bradley, spoke with the Savannah Morning News and shared that the class is “meant to teach and explore how ideas about the South and southerners seep into other Southern writers.”
She also adds that her “areas of interest are African-American literature and popular culture.” And that she tries “to find ways to connect those.” As for OutKast, this is what Big Boi had to say after hearing the news: “It’s an honor to be studied. I am originally from Savannah, and I remember Armstrong, so that is just super dope.”
I bet it is. Maybe if the course is as successful as we hope it will be, other colleges will pick up on it – or more Hip Hop inspired courses.
