Rapper, singer and songwriter, The Experience premiered his new single, “Home” on HipHopSince1987 today. This artist, who may be the next notable name to come out of the DMV since Goldlink, released the track ahead of his forthcoming project, “All For You.” Since he has a strong love for his hometown, The Experience enlisted a local choir to uplift listeners while they enjoy “Home.” As a result, the song channels other rappers who have used Gospel influences like Chance the Rapper. Growing up, The Experience was part of the youth usher ministry his grandmother led and that is where his love for music first began.
“I’m connected to gospel music in every way,” said The Experience. “Growing up in the church choir I had no choice but to like it lol. But in all honesty gospel music is unlike any genre, its the only thing I can listen to when things are going terrible and feel comfort.”
But thanks to his father, a well-respected musician in the DC Go-Go community, he spent his evenings watching people vibe out to high-spirited music that is known for its blend of funk, blues and soul. Because of his upbringing, The Experience now creates music that combines the bounce that Go-Go is so well-known for with the soulful and spiritual sounds of Gospel music. Although “Home” and its Gospel elements will not be included in his forthcoming EP, his Go-Go background will be present. His debut project, “All For You” promises to pay homage to the 70s with a sound that The Experience likes to call, “Future Funk.”
It blends experimental sounds, fast-paced rap and melodic lyrics. It even channels a few of his musical influences like D’Angelo, Jill Scott, André 3000, Drake and Funkadelic. As part of this project, The Experience hopes to bring good vibes and honesty with his music. Learn more about The Experience by visiting his Instagram.
