After four days off, the Atlanta Hawks returned to action on Tuesday night at State Farm Arena as they hosted the (4-2) San Antonio Spurs.

With news breaking earlier in the day that Hawks forward John Collins had been suspended for 25 games due to violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy, much of the talk in the NBA world on Tuesday surrounded Collins and Hawks.

Although the Hawks were without John Collins, there was still a basketball game to be played and to start the first quarter, the Hawks came out ready and focused.

After missing a game last week due to an ankle injury he suffered in Miami, Hawks star Trae Young was back in the starting lineup for the Hawks. Before the game tipped, Trae spoke on John Collins suspended saying he “feels for his brother”. Once the buzzer sounded to begin the end though, Trae was ready for action.

Hawks forward Jabari Parker got the start in place of John Collins and Parker took advantage of his starting role in the first quarter. In eight minutes of action in the first quarter, Parker was (4-6) from the field scoring 8 points.

Atlanta stayed step for step with the Spurs in the first half despite only shooting 23% from the field. Not only were the Hawks cold from three point land, Trae Young struggled in the first half only scoring 1 point and shooting (0-8) from the field. Trae did finish the first half with 6 assist.

In the third quarter, the Spurs opened it up a bit and even took as much as a ten point lead in the quarter. During the third quarter we saw Cam Reddish heat up from behind the three point line. Reddish knocked down 3 three point shots. A season high for Reddish.

Trae also stepped up in the third scoring 12 points and dishing out 4 assist in the third quarter however the Hawks trailed (78-70) to start the 4th.

The Hawks came out on fire to start the fourth with both DeAndre Hunter and Trae Young knocking down three pointers to take a brief lead over the Spurs (88-87) with under 7 minutes left in the 4th period.

The game turned with 6:55 left in the 4th as the Hawks took a (90-87) lead. The Hawks were on a (30-12) run in the span in the third and fourth quarter which gave the Hawks a (98-90). Trae Young was unstoppable from that point on. Trae Young finished the night with 29 points, 13 assist and just 3 turnovers. Jabari Parker was the Hawks second leading scorer on the night. Parker finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Hawks rookie DeAndre Hunter added 16 points and 8 rebounds.

For the Spurs, their leading scorer was DeMar DeRozan who finished with 22 points. LaMarcus Aldridge added 14 points and 5 rebounds.
