Buzzworthy up-and-coming rapper Lola Brooke has three things in common with the Hip-Hop greats who have come before and inspired her: her talent is undeniable; she’s well aware of that fact; and she has no intention on letting the world forget it. With her latest release, “My Bop,” Lola pays homage to one of those pioneers, evoking Tupac both on the song’s lyrics and its Cali sunshine-soaked visual.
Partnering once again with Team80’s in-house production squad – Reefa, 12Keyz and Suga Mike – Lola wastes no time making it known that she’s not here to play, delivering the song’s braggadocious hook as soon as the track opens. Belying her petite physique, Lola’s signature rich vocal tone glides and bounces over the Brooklyn Drill high-hats, showcasing her impeccable ability to manipulate her flow to fit any and every mood. The video, which simply finds her dancing on an empty L.A. street, further captures what sets Lola apart from many would be competitors: she’s still having so much fun with this. But where the pretty face and carefree attitude might fool you, the lyrics make it quite clear that none of this is a game to Lola.
