Meet Rising Harlem Artist Deon Young

Continuously putting on HEAVY for Harlem is the musically inclined, multifaceted musician, Deon Young! Always bringing the heat out of Harlem, the New York-native has taken a short break from penning hits for artists like: Ariana Grande, Justine Skye, The Real Webster, amongst many more – to focus more on his music in the new year!

Deon developed his passion for music when he began singing at the tender age of eleven. Since, music has always been an intimate and important factor in his life. In fact, Deon believes music chose him rather than the other way around. As a result of his talents, Deon was signed to Epic Records at an early stage in his booming career. This was a major move considering it’s rare for budding artists to achieve such achievements so early in their careers.

Deon saw this as more than just a record deal; it was an opportunity for him to learn about the fundamentals and foundational components of the music industry. He took full advantage of the chance. It’s always been about authenticity for Deon, and staying true to the true artistic essence of music making.

Tapping musical influences and inspiration from those he considers as “the authentic,” he credits 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Birdman, Kanye West, Nipsey Hussle, and The Dream among his biggest musical influences and inspirations.

Additionally, one of the many highlights of his musical career was singing for President Barack Obama at the White House. Deon worked at Harlem Hospital’s Hip Hop Health department and was asked to be an ambassador for Michelle Obama’s Easter youth event.

Apart from music, Deon enjoys writing, the arts, sports, fashion, and acting. When asked what distinguishes him in the over-saturated music industry, he said:

“I have vision, I have personality in my music, I have soul in my music. I can do anything; I can create new genres and sounds, I can sing at the highest level without auto-tune and I can rap at the highest level. I can also predict what the people want to hear and feel. I know my music history; I know what direction music wants to travel, and I know how to create what can sell at the highest levels. I can express anything to anyone. I’m a game-changer.”

When it comes to future visions and plans, he hopes to have a few Platinum albums and a Diamond album under his belt. He also hopes to pave the way for a new generation of musicians, songwriters, and producers. Lastly, he looks forward to releasing more music, performing more shows, all while selling more merchandise through his label.
