We don’t really know how to categorize this Spanish artist who has been appearing on the music scene in an atypical way for a year. Everything could come from the strange union of some Andalusian parents (artistic zone of the Spanish territory) with a marked english from Liverpool; or of the continuous and obsessive vision of Msb to unite all the arts in one concept: Fashion, visual material, exposure on networks, literature, musicality, “Spanglish” or even Barcelona. El Niño de la Pili seems to have all the details well marked “Yayo guides me from el Cielo, we will end up watching it together”. After this little introduction, we enter the darkness of Msb:
We couldn’t start any other way than with “Blanko”, Msb’s essential song that, unlike the great singles guided by corporates, has been rising silently and progressively on the international charts until it has carved out a solid gap between the underground music. “Blanko over Blanko” repeats the artist on a sharp, dirty beat, which may even seem poorly orchestrated but nothing could be further from the truth “It was what I was looking for, to be dirty” agrees the Catalan writer and musician. The truth is that the song created controversy for a few months due to the insistent complaints about the last word spoken in it (we have decided not to include it in the article) even so the speed, the broken voice and that strength that Msb takes from genres like “Punk” or “Rock” take us to a moment of transient madness that makes us stay in a loop. “I like Blanko, I like to make them angry that they are pissed off it makes me horny a** f*ck”.
But on the other hand, we have “Amae”; and that’s what we like the most about this artist, you can get out of a very “Trap” sound and reach romanticism in just one track. “Amae” is one of the most interesting works of this year. Because it is exposed as an album on platforms such as Spotify or Apple but was published on YouTube in two parts “It is a story of heartbreak. All the time it’s the same beat but it goes through different flows while Lara always follows the same one. “She doesn’t want to be with me (hence her same voice of her) and I try to surprise her to change her opinion of her (hence my changes between the first and second part)” Little more could we add in one of the pieces that we liked the most. The fact of congenial rhymes in Japanese with English, Spanish and Italian, is an act that defines how multifaceted this artist can become. Which brings out all the concepts of him collected in “Poetapes”: “They are poetry mixtapes. So they are “Poetapes” the writers will do it like this in 10 years”
And this could be the darkest part of the darkness of Msb Mario, his ego, the artist (apart from the aforementioned controversy with “Blanko”) behind his back treasures an interview that went viral due to the fact that the interviewer asked from a famous live streaming platform where he thought he would be in five years. To which the Catalan musician and composer replied: “Dead” leaving an enormous silence on the live show. The clip reached 50,000 views on Instagram in a single day. One more for Msb that is pronounced saying: “My art analyzes death. I’m not trying to make them understand. My novel is about it, my sounds and letters in the poems the same. I delve into the fear of the human brain, the most unknown part, they should be thankful. I’m the new Da Vinci”
That same dark part is what leads us to his deepest songs like “U” or more daring like “Ten Chikki Girls” both orchestrated in fusion with the renowned producer “Maken Row”. One of the most talked about urban couples this year despite being Spanish. “I like to record with Maken, we take drugs and then we enter that world of kicks and stops that only Xavi and Iniesta can do”. To finish, and no less importantly, we have left the Session with which Msb brought out all its resources in just 1:40 “I make poetry, that’s why my poems are last 1 minute and a maximum of 2, poetry consists of finding the perfect word, not needing many to express the concept you want. They need phrases, I need monosyllables”. And so it is, thanks to the union with A55 Music we were able to appreciate that typical Spanish sound fused with a repertoire of urban elements that Mario accompanies under the motto: “Hitano” playing with the word “Hit” and the gypsy ethnic group “The A55 Music team are incredible, they made things very easy. In the Session I talk about myself and the environment where I grew up”. In the second part, the Catalan artist decides to sit at a table and snack on it to create a musical thread in which he himself defines as “Spoken Word advanced level” and with the permission of the artist himself, concludes with the best part, the last in which a sound close to electronics allows “The kid” to give us that Spanish way of pronouncing with the most English intonation, in which Mario talks about his relationship with drugs “I’m not talking about my relationship with drugs, I’ m talking about my father, who is missing in the corner and the stadium is full”
Decoding this artist becomes quite complicated. But hook, he’s impregnated in your head and difficult to remove. Perhaps that is the purpose of his art, simply to accompany you in moments of darkness. That is why we leave you his YouTube channel and social networks so that you can enter his world:
