GRAMMY-Nominated singer/songwriter BJ The Chicago Kid unleashes new soulful track “Long Time” along with announcing his forthcoming collaboration album, Gravy with super-producer Yeti Beats (Doja Cat, Burna Boy) arriving November 10th via RTW/RCA Records.
BJ returns to a slower tempo with his latest single, “Long Time.” Produced by the talented, Yeti Beats and Charlie Bereal, this track marks the fourth official release from BJ’s highly anticipated upcoming LP. In his own words, “Long Time” is “one of those songs that started at 4 in the morning, during our first night at Al Green’s legendary studio. The inception of the song began with me on the drums, Charlie seamlessly weaving in the guitar, and Yeti anchoring the track with his bass.
The song exudes an infectious vibe, and over time, it has continued to evolve, becoming one of those tunes that only gets better with each listen.” In the track, BJ finds himself constantly reminiscing on the “one that got away,” long after the relationship’s demise.
Gravy, now available for pre-order, was recorded with a live band at Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, the hallowed home of soul legend Al Green. The ’70s mellow grooves of Al Green served as a profound inspiration for the album’s overarching sonic identity. Remarkably, BJ and Yeti, along with their live band, The Indications, managed to bring this album to life in less than a week’s time. Yeti Beats’s distinctive production seamlessly blends vintage soul and pop elements. When describing the project, BJ said, “Gravy smothers, covers, and makes everything taste better. The album Gravy is the persona of what the new cool is. It’s that feeling when you’re at your absolute best, got on your best clothes, exuding confidence in every step and word. This project embodies the very essence of how you carry yourself, how you assert your authority, and how you rise to the occasion. In essence, it’s the soul of the music, and in turn, the music becomes the gravy that defines me.” This fusion of musical styles results in a sound that’s both unconventional for the Chicago native and yet possesses a timeless quality that will resonate with listeners, young and old.
